Is Panama Worth It With a Baby?
Before Parker was born, Panama probably wouldn't have made our shortlist of dream destinations.
But after spending time there with a baby, we came away genuinely impressed.
It isn't perfect, and there were definitely some challenges, but if you're looking for a destination that's warm, easy to navigate, and a little less crowded than many Caribbean resorts, Panama deserves more attention than it gets.
Would we go back?
Absolutely.
Here's why.
What We Loved
1. It's incredibly easy to travel around
One thing that surprised us most was how straightforward Panama felt.
Roads were generally in good condition, distances between destinations were manageable, and we never felt overwhelmed trying to get from place to place.
Compared to some destinations where every transfer feels like an adventure, Panama felt refreshingly simple.
That makes a huge difference when you're travelling with a baby.
2. It felt very safe
As with anywhere, we stayed aware of our surroundings, but throughout our trip we generally felt comfortable walking around during the day and exploring with Parker.
People were friendly, welcoming, and often stopped to smile or wave at him.
As always, common travel precautions still apply, but safety was never something that dominated our thoughts during the trip.
3. Nature is incredible
One of Panama's biggest strengths is how much you can experience without long travel days.
In one trip you can:
Relax on Caribbean beaches
Visit rainforest
Spot sloths and monkeys
Explore islands
Walk through Panama City's historic streets
For families who like mixing relaxing days with adventures, it's a great balance.
4. Wildlife everywhere
This was easily one of our favourite parts.
Seeing monkeys swinging through trees, sloths in the wild, colourful birds, and tropical wildlife made the trip memorable in a way that beaches alone never could.
Even as adults, we loved it, and we can't wait to take Parker back when he's older and can appreciate it even more.
5. The weather
If you're escaping a Canadian winter, Panama delivers.
Warm temperatures every day meant we spent most of our time outside, whether that was exploring, swimming, or simply enjoying dinner outdoors.
What We Didn't Love
Sidewalks aren't always stroller friendly
In many areas we found ourselves using the baby carrier instead of the stroller.
If your baby is happy in a carrier, you'll probably have a much easier trip.
It can be hot
This sounds obvious, but travelling with a baby means the heat changes how you plan your days.
We found ourselves:
Heading out early
Taking long afternoon breaks
Swimming often
Planning outdoor activities for mornings and evenings
That slower pace actually ended up making the trip more enjoyable.
Would We Choose Panama Over...
Mexico?
For beaches alone, probably not.
For wildlife and variety, Panama wins.
Thailand?
Thailand still offers better value and is generally more developed for tourism.
However, Panama is much closer for North American families and involves significantly less travel time.
If you're nervous about your baby's first long-haul flight, Panama is an excellent alternative.

Hawaii?
Panama offers a similar tropical feel at a much lower overall cost.
You won't find the same level of luxury infrastructure everywhere, but we found it offered much better value for money.
So... Is Panama Worth It With a Baby?
For us, yes.
It isn't the easiest destination in the world, but it's much easier than we expected.
If you're looking for:
✅ Wildlife
✅ Warm weather
✅ Beaches
✅ Rainforest adventures
✅ A slower pace
✅ Less crowded destinations
...Panama is absolutely worth considering.
It gave us exactly the type of trip we love, equal parts relaxing and adventurous—and we'd happily take Parker back again.
